For generations, fluid power has been the top choice for the mining industry. Air & hand operated pumps are the preferential choice for mine safety underground use as there is no risk of sparks & ignition in a confined possibly methane gas / dust environment.
This makes the application of using hydraulics underground much safer than electrically controlled systems which could cause a spark.
