Aircraft tow bar units

Aircraft tow bar units are used to safely move and position aircraft onto flight lines and into hangers.

Challenges

BVA Hydraulics was contacted by a premier distributor partner located in the Midwest to redesign a hydraulic hand pump system for tow bar manufacturers.

These OEM companies were experiencing very slow pumping speed of the hand pumps slowing the connections of the tow bars to the aircraft. This was creating very slow push-back times from terminal ramps and resulting in aircraft departure delays.

Solutions

Due to the extreme service, conditions of these tow bars; they were also experiencing metal fatigue failures on the mounting of the hand pumps to the tow bars.

BVA Hydraulics redesigned our P1000 hand pumps to solve these problems – with an increased displacement flow rate which resulted in faster operating times. We also redesigned the mounting fixture brackets, which has resulted in zero failures of the base plate mounts.

Benefits

Faster connections to the airplanes means fewer delays. The quality BVA workmanship eliminates product failures, down time and replacement costs.
